At Crafting in the Night, we love to challenge our creativity while making a difference. This year, we’re combining those passions with a special version of our Makers Dozen Challenge dedicated to the incredible mission of Camp Boggy Creek.

About Camp Boggy Creek

Camp Boggy Creek is a place of magic, joy, and healing for children with serious illnesses and their families. Located in Florida, this 232-acre camp has served over 90,000 campers and families since 1996—all completely free of charge.

Founded by actor Paul Newman and General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, the camp offers activities like fishing, swimming, horseback riding, arts & crafts, and more, all in a medically safe environment. Children experience the fun and fellowship of camp life while forming lifelong memories and connections with others who understand their journey.

This life-changing camp operates year-round, relying on the generosity of donations and the dedication of over 1,800 annual volunteers to keep its mission alive.

The Makers Dozen Challenge

The Makers Dozen challenge is a general crochet or knit challenge where participants create 12 makes during the year.

The Boggy Creek version of this challenge invites you to combine your love of crafting with an opportunity to give back. The Makers Dozen Challenge: Boggy Creek Edition features 12 unique blanket patterns perfect for donation to Camp Boggy Creek—or any charity close to your heart.

You’ll find a wide variety of styles in this collection, from cozy throws to textured masterpieces, each with its own video tutorial to guide you. Whether you follow the suggested schedule or tackle projects at your own pace, this challenge is all about creating with purpose.

For this challenge, I’ve curated a list of patterns that were created specifically with Boggy Creek or the Boggy Creek dimensions in mind. You can find those links below.

Note: I’m not affiliated with the creators below, the challenge, or Boggy Creek. I just think it’s an awesome cause and one of many great places to donate your makes.

Featured Patterns

Each of these patterns was selected to spark your creativity and offer a meaningful way to support the Boggy Creek mission.

What Happens to the Blankets?

Each year, YouTubers and crafters from around the world come together to collect handmade blankets for Camp Boggy Creek. These blankets are hand-delivered to the camp, where they are distributed to the children and families attending the programs.

The blanket drive is hosted by a rotating group of passionate YouTubers, including Nancy (She’z Got Yarn), Lynette (Charmed Grammy Crochet), and Juan (Juan the Yarn Addict). They dedicate their time and energy to organizing the drive, unboxing donated blankets on their channels, and spreading awareness about Camp Boggy Creek’s mission.

How to Participate

  1. Create Your Blankets
Use one of the featured Makers Dozen Challenge patterns or any other design to create a blanket that meets the camp’s size requirements:
    • Afghan Size: 35-40 inches wide, 40-50 inches long
    • Deadline: January 31, 2025
    • Yarn Requirements: Please use yarn that is machine washable and dryable. Animal fibers are not recommended as they may trigger allergies in the children.
  2. Send Your Blankets
Mail your completed blankets to any of the hosts participating in this year’s challenge:

    Nancy (She’z Got Yarn)
    PO Box 1853
